OUTSTANDING YOUNG INSTRUMENTAL MUSICIANS AWARD

Sam Bruce Award and the Irondequoit Concert Band Award

In 1995 the Irondequoit Concert Band established the Sam Bruce "Outstanding Young Instrumental Musicians Award." The award was named after Sam Bruce, a well liked music teacher in West Irondequoit's Rogers and Irquois Schools. Mr Bruce passes away in 1994. His wife designated memorial money for the band. With the funds, these awards were created for the two West Irondequoit Schools for ten years.

In 2002 the band raised additional money, supplemented by an anonymous " matching funds " donor. That allowed the awards to include the two East Irondequoit schools and to be continued indefinitely.

The schools music departments determine the winners, based on established criteria.

The winners receive a savings bond, a trophy, his or her name on a plaque that remains in the school, and recognition at the Irondequoit Concert Bands Fourth of July concert..

The band is also accepting contributions for the awards fund. Checks may be made out to IRONDEQUOIT CONCERT BAND and mailed to PO Box 67008, Rochester, New York, 14617. Sue Wolfe coordinates this award for the band and the Irondequoit schools. For further information, contact her at 342-5867.
